In Roman times Dorchester was the town of Durnovaria and to this day the Roman Ampitheatre , Maumberry Rings can still be explored in the town. In the town’s museum you’ll also find plenty of relics from Dorchester’s roman heritage.
To the south of Dorchester is the historic Iron Age fort of Maiden Castle.
